Production at Johnstown America delivers three groups of coal carsJohnstown America Corporation will complete delivery of aluminum coal cars to three customers this spring. The production runs include BethGon™ II gondolas and AutoFlood III™ automatic discharge coal hopper cars. The customers for the groups of cars are GATX Rail, CIT Rail Resources and Detroit Edison. GATX Rail is acquiring 210 AutoFlood III cars, CIT is getting 110 AutoFlood III cars and Detroit Edison has bought 47 replacement BethGon II cars for its fleet of coal gondolas. Johnstown America's BethGon II is an updated version of the traditional BethGon car, which is the most commonly used coal gondola car in western coal service. The aluminum BethGon, first introduced by Johnstown America in 1985, is a proven design reflecting many years and billions of miles of service. The aluminum AutoFlood III is a state of the art automatic discharge car that features Johnstown America's MegaFlo door system. Both cars feature lighter tare weight, higher cubic capacity and durability to meet the rigors of long-haul coal train service. For over a century Johnstown America Corporation has been a leading producer of railcars in North America. Some of the car types JAC designs and builds are aluminum coal cars (it is the industry leader), flat cars, mill gondola cars, heavy haul intermodal cars, the new AVC™ aluminum motor vehicle carrier, and the new VersaCoil™ steel coil car.
