Johnstown America builds newly designed steel coil cars for TFMJohnstown, PA, February 10, 2004 - Johnstown America Corporation is building 250 newly designed railcars to carry steel coils for TFM, S.A. de C.V., one of the largest railroads in Mexico. TFM will lease the cars from CIT Rail Resources. Delivery will be completed in the first quarter of 2004. The 60-foot VersaCoil™ cars were designed by Johnstown America to efficiently carry up to eighteen steel coils in the car's nine transverse troughs. This new configuration matches the smaller dimension coils that are transported by TFM for a variety of customers in the automotive, steel, and manufacturing industries in the U.S. and Mexico. To protect the coils from moisture and the elements while in transit, the cars are equipped with one-piece, lightweight insulated covers. CIT Rail Resources, a unit of CIT Group Inc., provides a wide array of equipment leasing and financial products to the rail industry and owns and manages a fleet in excess of 54,000 railcars and approximately 550 locomotives. As one of the leading railcar and locomotive lessors in North America, CIT Rail Resources serves customers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico and is the largest operating lessor of 286,000-pound capacity railcars in North America. For over a century Johnstown America Corporation has been a leading producer of railcars in North America. In addition to developing the five, seven and nine-trough VersaCoil steel coil cars, other car types JAC designs and builds are aluminum coal cars (it is the industry leader), flat cars, mill gondola cars, heavy haul intermodal cars, and the new AVC aluminum motor vehicle carrier.
